Alcohol Suspected in Car vs. Construction Worker Accident

Police in Colorado Springs, Colorado, are looking into the events that sent a construction worker to the hospital this morning and left a man in custody for drunk driving.

The female, who was working as a construction flagger, was hit around 1:40 a.m. According to Fox 21, “It happened at the corner of N. Academy Blvd. and Woodmen Rd.”

The construction flagger was taken to the hospital with significant injuries. One of which was a broken leg.

The male driver was reportedly taken into police custody for driving under the influence and may accrue more charges.

The Colorado Springs Police Department is still investigating the accident.

Kansas Plant Accident Leaves Five Workers with Burn Injuries

According to ABC’s NTV, five men were burned at an asphalt plant in Wichita, Kansas. They were all taken to the hospital. Two of the men required a helicopter flight, suffering severe burns. The other three were transported by ambulance.

The accident occurred at Shuling Construction Co. According to police, workers were “splashed with hot tar,” reports NTV. OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) has been informed of the situation and is being asked to investigate.

OSHA considering new injury and illness prevention rule

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is considering a proposed rule that will require employers to develop a formal program to educate their employees on workplace safety, therefore reducing workplace injuries.

The new rule is called the Injury and Illness Prevention Program and OSHA will hold informal stakeholder meetings to discuss the proposal. The proposed rule will include the following elements of management duties, employee participation, hazard identification, hazard prevention and control, and education and training. There are currently 24 states that require a written illness and injury prevention program in certain industries.

Salt mine accident leaves one dead, one injured

A salt bin collapse at the Cargill Salt Mine in Lansing, New York killed one person and injured another.

Officials say that two men were loading salt into a truck when a salt bin collapsed on the two men. The accident occurred at 6:30 p.m. and rescue efforts continued until 9:30 a.m. the next day. Officials at the mine say that they are working with investigators to find the cause of the accident. It is unclear if the mine will reopen.

Three story building collapses, injures three construction workers

Three construction workers and a person passing by were injured when a three-story building collapsed in New York.

The three construction workers were working building a fourth floor to the building and working on the third floor when it collapsed. One worker was completely buried after the crash and it took rescue crews almost 20 minutes to get to him. The two other workers was partially buried with concrete but rescued very quickly. Two of the workers were transported to the hospital along with a pedestrian who ran to aid of the workers after the building collapsed. The cause of the collapse is currently under investigation.

Construction worker falls 40 feet at worksite

In Wanaque, N.J. a construction worker fell 40 feet from a construction site on February 3.

Emergency crews were immediately sent to the scene. The worker was transported to the hospital via helicopter. The worker fell from the third floor of an adult living community building. The 23-year-old construction worker was reaching for a propane tank on a forklift while working on the third floor. The tank slipped and caused other tanks to become off balance. This caused the worker to lose his balance and subsequently fall 40 feet. The worker suffered multiple injuries.
