A New Jersey construction worker was injured on Wednesday, January 5, when he was trapped by an unoccupied forklift that had been left in drive. He was pinned against a delivery vehicle until police and rescue workers arrived to free him.

The 41 year-old worker, Gregory Schmidt, was found conscious on a Route 57 construction site Wednesday morning. He was taken to Hackettstown Regional Medical Center for internal injuries.

A construction worker was killed today in a terrible accident at a juvenile construction facility. The 52-year-old man was employed by Terik Roofing Co. They were remodeling the roof of the Circleville Juvenile Correctional Facility. The victim has been identified as Mark Mazzagotti. He was pronounced dead at Berger Hospital.

According to the Columbus Dispatch, “Mazzagotti was using a boom-lift machine to remove shingles from a roof under repair at the juvenile facility.” Some shingles became stuck, so Mazzagotti got out and attempted to fix the situation. Instead, his machine went into gear. It then pinned the construction worker against a metal trash bin.

Youth Services provided first aid until EMS arrived. The accident is currently being investigated by both OSHA and Youth Services.

Police in Colorado Springs, Colorado, are looking into the events that sent a construction worker to the hospital this morning and left a man in custody for drunk driving.

The female, who was working as a construction flagger, was hit around 1:40 a.m. According to Fox 21, “It happened at the corner of N. Academy Blvd. and Woodmen Rd.”

The construction flagger was taken to the hospital with significant injuries. One of which was a broken leg.

The male driver was reportedly taken into police custody for driving under the influence and may accrue more charges.

The Colorado Springs Police Department is still investigating the accident.

Assistant Secretary of Labor Dr. David Michaels is suggesting criminal penalties for companies whose negligence has caused construction accidents. He says that the monetary penalties just aren’t doing the job.

A woman in upstate New York is facing prison time and a hefty fine after admitting she sold goats while collecting workers’ compensation.

According to court documents, Susan Tansosch pleaded guilty in United States District Court to making false statements to the U.S. Department of Larbor. In the plea, announced Tuesday, United States Attorney Richard Hartunian said Tansosch collected the benefits after she told authorities she wasn’t making money from other employment. She was selling goats near Syracuse, New York at the time.

The 53 year-old goat seller is to be sentenced on August 4th, 2010. Tanosch faces up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. She collected more than $60,000 in workers compensation during the time of her goat dealings.

A welder was injured in an explosion at the at the Verizon Wireless data center in Carteret earlier this month.

The worker was welding when a sudden explosion blew the doors of his pickup truck off of their hinges. The doors then crashed into the worker. He was rushed to the trauma center of the University Hospital in Newark by ambulance for treatment. No one else was injured in the explosion. The cause of the explosion is under investigation.
