OSHA considering new injury and illness prevention rule

Posted on Friday, May 7th, 2010 at 1:17 pm

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is considering a proposed rule that will require employers to develop a formal program to educate their employees on workplace safety, therefore reducing workplace injuries.

The new rule is called the Injury and Illness Prevention Program and OSHA will hold informal stakeholder meetings to discuss the proposal. The proposed rule will include the following elements of management duties, employee participation, hazard identification, hazard prevention and control, and education and training. There are currently 24 states that require a written illness and injury prevention program in certain industries.
