New York Fights to Keep Stenographers for Workers Comp Cases

Posted on Tuesday, October 20th, 2009 at 10:39 am

Members of New York’s Senate Labor Committee in Albany got into a seven-hour debate recently over whether or not to keep records of its hearings using electronic recording technology rather than stenographers. Surprisingly, the politicians voted unanimously to keep using stenographers, citing that the machines might be unable to properly record people with strange accents.

However, some are criticizing the committee’s move, since the recording technology would prove far less expensive to the taxpayers than the continued use of stenographers.
