SLAP Tears
The socket of the shoulder can become injured when tissues around the joint suffer from damaging tears. This injury, known as a SLAP tear, commonly occurs among people who put high amounts of stress on their shoulders. These injuries typically occur with higher frequency among construction and manufacturing workers.
Unfortunately, shoulder injuries often require surgery, and you may have to miss time at work in order to heal. If you have suffered a shoulder or SLAP tear while on the job, you may be entitled to workers’ comp. To discuss your claim options with an experienced legal advocate, contact the New Jersey workers’ compensation attorneys of Levinson Axelrod, P.A., at 1-888-389-COMP today.
Damages from SLAP Tears
The SLAP, or the superior labrum from anterior to posterior, is a tissue in the shoulder socket that helps keep the shoulder joint inside the socket. This tissue is both white fibrous tissue and cartilage which gives the SLAP tissue great flexibility and durability. However, the SLAP can be torn as a result of extreme stresses and repeated strain. A person suffering a SLAP tear may experience the following symptoms:
- Pulsing shoulder joint pain
- Lack of arm strength
- Additional pain during sleep in certain positions
Treating SLAP tears generally requires surgical intervention. This can leave a worker recovering for an extended period of time, keeping them away from work.
