Carpal Tunnel
In today’s world of technology and computers it is easy to see why most of us spend our time at work on the computer. Many of the jobs on the market require at least minimal knowledge with computers and the internet. Many jobs that require an education also require that you be well versed in Microsoft, typing a certain amount of words per minute, and using email. With all that time on computers it is a big stress on our hands and wrists. Like every part of our body, our hands and wrists are susceptible to wear and tear with everyday use. That is why carpal tunnel has become more and more prevalent in today’s world.
Carpal Tunnel is a syndrome because it affects more than one part of the body. Specifically, the hands, wrists, and forearms on an individual. Carpal tunnel is caused when the median nerve in our hands constantly rub up against the sides of the carpal tunnel, which is a narrow tunnel made up of ligaments, tendons, and bones at the base of the hand. As the median nerve is pressed, rubbed, or squeezed against the carpal tunnel it causes pain, swelling, and tingling or burning sensation in the hands.
